Responsibilities
- Verify Insurance Eligibility: Conduct thorough checks on patient insurance coverage to ensure claims are submitted to the correct payers.
- Claim Submission: Accurately code and submit medical claims to clearinghouses and insurance companies electronically.
- Denial Management: Analyze denied or rejected claims, identify root causes, and submit appeals to recover lost revenue.
- Payment Posting: Reconcile payments from patients and insurance carriers, posting them to patient accounts and resolving balances.
- Compliance Adherence: Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and internal compliance policies.
- Patient Communication: Follow up with patients regarding outstanding balances and provide clear explanations of their bills.
- Process Improvement: Identify areas for improvement in billing processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications
- Certification: CPC, CPC-A, or RHIT/RHIA certification is preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
- Education: Associate degree or higher in Medical Billing, Coding, or Healthcare Administration.
- Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in medical billing and revenue cycle management.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding systems; proficiency in EHR systems (e.g., Epic, AthenaHealth) and MS Office Suite.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to detect errors in data entry and coding to prevent claim denials.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with insurance providers and patients.
- Remote Work Setup: Must have a dedicated home office environment and high-speed internet.
