Responsibilities
- Perform venipunctures and capillary draws on patients of all ages, including neonates and geriatrics, with a focus on patient comfort and safety.
- Maintain strict adherence to infection control protocols, OSHA guidelines, and CLIA regulations at all times.
- Verify patient identity and explain collection procedures clearly to reduce anxiety and ensure compliance.
- Label, process, and transport specimens accurately to the laboratory department.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sterile phlebotomy station and inventory of supplies.
- Document patient data accurately in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Collaborate effectively with nurses, physicians, and lab technicians to streamline patient flow.
Qualifications
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) certification from an accredited institution is required.
- Current state licensure (if applicable) or eligibility to obtain licensure in Michigan.
- High School Diploma or GED is mandatory.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical phlebotomy experience preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to de-escalate patient anxiety.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs when necessary.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is preferred.
